This page is primarily for the relative newcomer to website design and internet marketing. It is designed as a quick introduction, and it is a good idea to read it all the way through.

Which Browser to use yourself ?

We recommend the use of Internet Explorer, version 6.0 or above. The AOL version of Internet Explorer is not recommended. If you are an AOL user, use the original version of Internet Explorer, which should still be on your system.

Internet Explorer has become more reliable with each new version, so we do recommend that you try to use the latest version.

Search engines

Getting a high position in search engine listings is often seen as the Holy Grail of online marketing, for the simple reason that it brings free traffic to your website. Read more about optimising your website for search engines.

Splash or Intro pages

A splash page is a page that is displayed when visitors first go to your website. Although splash pages can look fun, they can have negative effects on the usability as well as the returning traffic for your website. Read more about Splash pages.

Frames

Frames can have a very detrimental effect on your website, but most people don't even know if their website uses frames. Read more about Frames.

Accessibility

Accessibility means making your website available to as many people as possible, regardless of disability. New laws came into force in the UK on 1 October 2004 which may affect your website. Click here, for more about website accessibility.

Domain names

Choosing the right domain name can make a big difference to the amount of business you get from your website. Read more about choice of domain names.

Website Do’s & Don’ts

Read why we don’t do some of the horrible things that might be done with websites.

Putting adverts on your website

Putting Google adverts on your website is very easy, and it could bring in useful extra revenue. But there are pitfalls. Read more about Google Adsense advertising.

Viruses Protection & “Spam”

The security of the average home PC has been said to be "about as safe as a tethered goat in a jungle full of tigers"! Read some quick tips on internet security and how to minimise spam.

Finally . . .

We want you to get the very best from your new website, so if there is anything that you think we can improve or if there is something you don't quite understand, please either call us, or use the Contact Us form.
